Digambarpur Vivekananda Sanga (DVS NGO) today is working for the overall health status development and transformation of the deprived communities in the Digambarpur district of South 24 Parganas state by providing health care opportunities through sustainable healthcare development programs. India has made rapid strides in the health sector
since independence. However, various eye-opening data from NFHS indicate that access to healthcare remains a challenge. While the health statistics of rural India continue to be poor, the health status and access to health for the poor in urban slum dwellers have surfaced to be equally deplorable and have less than 4% of government primary healthcare facilities.
Urban slum dwellers suffer from adverse health conditions owing to mainly two reasons –first the lack of education and thus lack of awareness; and second the unwillingness to lose a day’s wage to reach the nearest medical facility. Healthcare for the underprivileged, which is a desperate need, thus remains unaddressed. In such a scenario a mobile healthcare services delivery system is the most practical mechanism. And in subscription to this view, Smile Foundation has initiated the Smile on Wheels program. This is a unique mobile hospital program that seeks to address problems of mobility, accessibility and availability of primary healthcare with a special focus on children and women, in urban slums and remote rural areas.The Smile on Wheels program has so far provided free healthcare services to more than 100 children and families.
Digambarpur Vivekananda Sanga is registered with the Registrar of Societies under the Societies Registration Act XXVI of 1961 and the type of NGO is Trust (Non-Government) and the Registration Number is S/2L/39140. The city and state of registration are Dholahat and West Bengal. We are also registered under section 12AA of the Income Tax Act, 1961 bearing Registration No.— ITBA/EXM/S/12AA/2019-20/1016425472(1) dated 20/06/2019. Also Registered under section 80G(5)(vi) of the Income Tax Act 1961 bearing Registration No.— ITBA/EXM/S/80G/2019-20/1016425567(1) dated 20/06/2019. The date of registration is 02/07/2015.
